ATHENESKOLAN is an independent, nine-year compulsory school for the ages 6-16, in Visby on Gotland. We are an independent school with high ambitions for today’s conscious parents and pupils.

Our education is based on the arts, which we believe are born, and thriving, within each individual. Personal creation gives wider possibilities to see and grasp the surrounding world. Dancing and fencing are physical forms of art that all are pupils perform. And we have chosen Spanish as the modern foreign language for all our pupils, of all ages.

Our vision is to create independent, creative and open people. We do that by showing appreciation and respect for the individuals. In order to succeed in doing that you need a well-educated, dedicated and conscious category of personnel – We’ve got all that!

About ATHENESKOLAN

The educational authorities approved of ATHENESKOLAN as an independent nine-year compulsory school on November 14, 2001. The school opened its gates in August 2002.

The first year we admitted 110 pupils, evenly distributed from the preschool class up till year nine. This school year, 2007-2008, the school has 270 pupils. Before school starts in the autumn 2008, we have started moving to the new premises in Visborg. Year eight and nine will have most of their lessons there. During summer 2009 the whole school will move to Visborg. There two buildings, Kosta and Bysen, will be renovated by Vasallen and will later on be at our disposal.

The pupils at ATHENESKOLAN meet a competent, well-educated and dedicated staff who teach the pupils with great awareness and joy. 100 per cent of the permanently employed personnel are qualified for their posts.

ATHENESKOLAN counts on a close collaboration and participation from the parents concerning the pupils’ schoolwork.

ATHENESKOLAN creates independent, creative, open and outgoing people. All this is done by:

We welcome pupils on Gotland from six to 16 years of age. The school also has an after-school recreation centre which is open: 06.30 am – 17.30 pm.
